LIBER’s 40th Annual Conference and first European Project Workshops
Three parallel workshops took place as part of the pre-conference session at the LIBER 2011 Conference in Barcelona.
Each of the three workshops directly related to one of the European projects in which LIBER is a partner.
The APARSENworkshop was run by David Giaretta, the director of the APA. David, an expert in the area of digital preservation, focused on the testing of digital preservation systems, including audits carried out and models developed through the APARSEN project.

Europeana Libraries ran a very well-attended workshop focusing on two key aspects of the project: end user services and the business model.
The first part of the workshop analysed what end user service developments should be a priority for Europeana Libraries. A discussion on the best value business model for a European library aggregator concluded the workshop.

One of the hot topics of the LIBER conference was data management, so it was no surprise that the ODEworkshop was full to capacity. Using an ODE draft report examining integration between datasets and publications, five experts in the field presented a provocation related to the topic. A lively debate ensued and the audience comments captured during the session will be included in the final report on integration between datasets and publication, which will be launched at the APA Conference in November.
The information captured in the workshop will also inform the layout of an ODE survey on libraries roles in data exchange, to be carried out in the autumn.
