Travelling Through History

New virtual exhibition of items from EuropeanaTravel launched by The European Library

Bohemia, Rose of All Centuries Covered with Blood Travelling Through History is a new virtual exhibition of over 500 items of travel memorabilia from 13 major European libraries.

Launched by the The European Library, this exhibition brings together a selection of objects that were digitised for the EuropeanaTravelproject. The recently completed EuropeanaTravel project, involving several LIBER members, digitised over 1 million objects around the themes of travel, tourism and exploration. Through the Travelling Through History exhibition many of these objects are available online for the first time.

Highlights of the exhibition include a leather-bound photograph album, documenting a tour around Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina by British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans, the visitors’ book of Dutch scientist and physician Bernardus Paludanus(1550-1633) and a Baroque map in the shape of a Rose.

Each object in Travelling Through History is accompanied by curatorial information in English and the main language of the contributing institution. Most objects can also be downloaded.
