Two all hands meetings and a conference
The 7thto the 11thof November was a very busy week for LIBER projects.
Monday the 7thof November marked the half way point of the Opportunities for Data Exchange project. The all-hands meeting at the BMA in London focused on the next steps for the project. Two key reports have already been delivered on time to the European Commission and the next year will primarily focus on validating some of the finding of the project thus far and a more in depth exploration of key issues and roles.
The ODE general assembly was adjacent to the APA Annual Conference, which took place over 2 days. The theme of the conference was ‘Putting the Infrastructure in Place for Digital Preservation’. As well as having presentations from related European projects the conference brought together key stakeholders in this area. One of the most powerful speakers was Dr Mark Dayer, a cardiologist, who brought a real world perspective on the importance of infrastructures for digital preservation. Martha Anderson from the Library of Congress gave us an insight into practices in the US, whilst views from industry were presented by Google, Oracle and Microsoft and IBM. The conference was also used as the launch pad for the consultation survey to explore the roles of libraries in data exchange.
The APARSEN all-hands meeting took place in the days following the conference. With representatives from 33 partners from various stakeholder groups such as research institutes, libraries and industry, the meeting was intensive. Discussion ranged from what it meant to be a network of excellence to who our target audiences are and how they should be targeted.
