LIBER Response to the Public consultation on Content Online
LIBER prepared a response to the EC Public Consultation on Content Online launched in October last year, based on previous LIBER responses and after having read the opinions of EBLIDA and JISC. We are pretty confident that this response, sent to the European Commission on 5 January, truly reflects the position of European research libraries.
According to Commission, a truly Single Market without borders for Creative Online Content could allow retail revenues of the creative content sector to quadruple if clear and consumer-friendly measures are taken by industry and public authorities. The October reflection paper – drafted jointly by the services of Commissioners Reding and McCreevy – outlines current challenges for three groups of stakeholders – rightholders, consumers and commercial users.
